My name's Megan, and this is my official writing journal. Should have made this when I was doing NaNoWriMo, but I'm doing NaNoFiMo and NaNoWriYe, so I figure I might as well start one now.
My current WIP is Crescendo in C, a YA novel. Clytemnestra Pamela Jackson (Mel to her friends) is a shy 14 year old girl attending her first year at Holly River High School. After finding herself a part of the school's first jazz band in over ten years, she learns to express herself through her music and gains some new friends in the process. I won NaNoWriMo with 50,183 words, and am planning on finishing during NaNoFiMo with at least 85,000 words. However, I haven't even started writing in December, yet! So I'm still sitting at 50,183.
I want to have it done this month and then let it sit for a while before editing it while I work on other projects for NaNoWriYe. My planned projects include:
The Absent Weeping - Fantasy - PG13
The tale has always existed in the prosperous world of Diomogia, a tale used only to frighten children nowadays. The tale that a second world exists, a world of perpetual darkness, weeping, and wailing. A tale so old as to be legend.
But unbeknownst to the population of Diomogia, that second world not only exists, it exists underneath their own - the world of Horytos. A whole people lives there, banished there before the memory anyone living due to the well-meaning plea of a long dead king and the malice of a chaotic goddess. But a group of Horytish citizens has made it to the surface, and together with a couple of unassuming Diomogians they attempt to confront the goddess and reunite the two worlds into one.
*I have no idea if this will be a single book or a trilogy, to be honest.
The Book - Short Stories/YA - PGA conglomeration of short stories about the (mis) adventures of the Forest Hill High School band, told through the viewpoints of various members.
*Forest Hill is my pet school. I have lots of developed characters for it, and the one-shots will be fun to write in between other stories.
Fractal Symphony - Fantasy - PG13Music is magic - but magic is banned by the kingdom in an attempt to hold power over the citizens.
*Annnd that's about all I have for that, but I really like the idea and want to develop it.
Samson Wedgewood, Attorney at Law - YA - GSixth grader Samson Wedgewood finds himself swamped with "court cases" after he declares himself an attorney.
*This is one where the story followed the title.
Decrescendo and Tristo - YA - PGSequel to my '07 NaNovel, Crescendo in C. Clytemnestra Jackson, now a senior, finds herself sad and frightened at the prospect of graduating and leaving behind everything - and everyone - she loves.
The Splintered Coast - Fantasy - PG13?I actually don't have the slightest idea what it's about. One of my muses, Tirialth, wants her own story. She told me that was the name of it. That's what I've got.
Last of the Camden Pirates - Fantasy/Sci-Fi - PG13?A group of sky pirates tries their best to stay afloat (pun intended) in the skies while a stowaway on the run from the king unknowingly causes them no end of trouble.
*This has been in my mind for a long time. I'm not even sure how long.
Beggars Can't Be Choosers - YA - PG/PG13A junior girl finds her mother's diary, detailing her mother's courtship of and marriage to her long-dead biological father. This prompts her to find out more about her biological father as well as poke her nose into the hows and whys of her mother's relationship with her stepfather.
Tamarix - Fantasy - PG13?No idea, other than it's about a character of mine named Kythe from a long time ago.
Honor Among Thieves - Fantasy - PG13?Another one based on a character, this time a character named Tyv.
Mourning Glory - Fantasy/YA - PGA girl's grandmother poisons and kills the girl's mother (the queen), prompting the girl to escape to a neighboring kingdom with her servant before she is killed as well.
The Lone Saxophonist of Space - YA - PG
No idea what this will be about, actually, aside from the fact that it will be YA and about a saxophone player. Another one where the title came first. I like writing about musicians/music, for the record.
The Unlikely Ones - Fantasy - PG13A island girl with wanderlust stows away on a merchant ship. The sailor boy who finds her agrees to keep her a secret and show her around the mainland with the promise she will catch the first ship back to her island. But once on the mainland, they find themselves mixed up with a young girl being pursued by armed men. Who is she? Is she friend or foe? Why are there people after her?
*I don't even know the answer to that last question....
Sword Dancer - Fantasy/YA? - PG/PG13?"The crown sat on the head of ________, but he was not king."
*That's the opening line. That's also all I know. I have no idea how the title relates or anything, I just felt like that might be the right title. Go figure.
Seasonal Seas - Fantasy - PG13The people worship the Holy Couple - the goddess of the Day and the god of the Night. But some also worship the Children of the Holy Couple. These Children are the physical embodiment of the Seasons; Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter. Worshippers of the Children are seen as blasphemers and were exiled years ago by the king, who chose to do so rather than putting them to death as people called for. But now his fanatic son is on the throne. There is talk of rebellion amongst the exiles, and the new king wishes to put down the rebellion before it becomes a threat - by wiping out the blasphemers. But their gods and goddesses may have something to say about that, and they won't go down without a fight....
*Again, may be a trilogy, may be a single novel. I don't know. I may have one book be about the exile and the other two about the rebellion and war.
Obviously, some are much more fleshed out than others. Almost all titles are subject to change. I have no idea how much of that I'll actually write, but I'd like to write as much as I can. I'll update the list every so often. Thanks for stopping by!
